When people actually want to watch 50 shades of grey
when people actually want to watch 50 shades of grey
let alone read those books
First of all, this is a trigger warning for any of you struggling with sexual sin. Disregard this, as I do not want to cause any of you to stumble.
Apparently in the book:
"Christian informs her (Ana) that the second contract will be one of dominance and submission and that there will be no romantic relationship, only a sexual one. “
Now, quoting the usccb on the Song:
"It frequently proclaims a joyous reciprocity between the lovers and highlights the active role of the female partner, now a pure figure to be cherished rather than an adulterous woman to be punished and abused.”
As we can see, the song of songs ‘presents an inspired portrayal of ideal human love, a resounding affirmation of the goodness of human sexuality that is applicable to the sacredness and the depth of married union.’
Where as in this 50 shades book, we have these two people who are not even married,. The guy obviously just wants to USE her for sexual reasons, as a piece of meat. What i find interesting is that the same people who cry misogyny are the ones who are eating this book up,
Misogyny (/mɪˈsɒdʒɪni/) is the hatred or dislike of women or girls. Misogyny can be manifested in numerous ways, including sexual discrimination, Violence against women, and sexual objectification of women, denigration of women (denigration. denigrate. to speak damagingly of; criticize in a derogatory manner; sully; defame: to denigrate someone’s character. to treat or represent as lacking in value or importance; belittle; )
which is what he is doing to her, “punishing her”….for what?
He’s sexually objectifying her.
"Christian later takes Ana out to eat, and he reveals to her that he lost his virginity at fifteen to one of his mother’s friends"
one word. Pedophilia.
"Ana later meets up with Christian to discuss the contract, only to grow overwhelmed by the potential BDSM arrangement and the potential of having a sexual relationship with Christian that is not romantic in nature”
Yes, because who doesn’t want a relationship where you get to be treated like a toy and a meat bag. Everyone deserves to be LOVED. Not USED.
“When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more noble her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women.”
― Fulton J. Sheen, Life Is Worth Living
“You must remember to love people and use things, rather than to love things and use people.”
― Fulton J. Sheen
"Christian fulfills Ana’s request, beating her with a belt, only for Ana to realize that the two of them are incompatible. "
Is this what we see as “love”? If so, this is why society is so broken. This honestly hurts my heart. People deserve to be loved, cherished, respected. But beating with a belt? This is romance? Hurting someone is romance? I just can’t understand, even after giving consent, why someone would want to be belittled, instead of the couple giving each other their fertility, their all, and being open to life..united until death do them part.
I’d be insulted if I were to get married and my husband did not entrust himself to me and was not open to life. Speaking of marriage now, It demands a total and definitive gift of persons to one another. Now, that sounds wayyyyyyyyyyyy better compared to just hooking up with someone and letting them beat you.
The problem isn’t that people aren’t having sex, the problem is that they have reduced it to fulfill their pleasures, for selfish desires. We have lost self control and self respect. I'm not just saying this because “I'm a prude”, if that is what people think they are more than welcome to think so. Sex is not a bad thing, as long as you're married and use it as God intended it to be used for, to unite two lovers open to life. It will take forever to explain more about this and I don't have the time, so I compiled what I could. As for this movie causing Lust, there is no way God intended sex to be like what this book portrays it to be. At all. Those who decide to watch this are putting themselves in a near occasion of sin, actually, I can't imagine watching this movie and thinking it is not a sin. There is nothing in those books that speak of the dignity of each and every person. Avoid it like the plague. I can't change your mind, but since you are a Christian, you can go ahead and pray about it and be open to what God wants to say about this. May God Bless you always.
“It is the duty of every man to uphold the dignity of every woman.”
― Pope John Paul II
“There is no dignity when the human dimension is eliminated from the person. In short, the problem with pornography is not that it shows too much of the person, but that it shows far too little.”
(we cannot reduce people to what we see on the outside, even though they are completely nude, we still know nothing about them, their pains and struggles, their lives.)
― Pope John Paul II

We are worth so much more than what this books portrays us as.
